Major Barfield serves as commander of the two regions and six companies that comprise the department's Criminal Investigation Division.

Major Barfield is a native of Little Rock and a 1973 graduate of Arkansas State University.  He spent more than 25 years assigned to the department’s Highway Patrol Division working in Clark and Nevada Counties.  His command experience dates back to 1998 as CID company commander in southwest Arkansas (Company C) and his 2004 promotion as commander of the Criminal Investigation Division.  He is a graduate of the FBI Academy.

Special Agents assigned to the division investigate criminal cases initiated by both the Arkansas State Police and local law enforcement agencies.
