The Fire Marshal’s Office of the State Police was created through legislative authority by Act 254 of 1955 (ACA 12-13-101 through 116) giving the Director of the Arkansas State Police/State Fire Marshal specific responsibilities and authority to prevent fires in the State of Arkansas.

Among the responsibilities of the Fire Marshal are the prevention of fires, regulatory authority for storage, sale and use of combustibles and explosives, licensing of fire alarm and sprinkler system installers and the suppression of arson and the investigation of the cause, origin and circumstances of suspicious fires.

Combustibles/Explosives Sales and Storage Regulation

The Fire Marshal is responsible for oversight of keeping, storing, using, manufacture, selling, handling, transportation, or other disposition of highly flammable materials and rubbish, gunpowder, dynamite, crude petroleum or any of its products, explosives or compounds or any other explosive, including fireworks, and firecrackers. The Fire Marshal may also prescribe the materials and construction of receptacles and buildings to be used for any of those purposes. Fire Alarm and Sprinkler System Installer License

The Act 254 of 1955 designates the Arkansas State Police as an administering agency to regulate fire alarm and sprinkler system installers or businesses offering fire alarm and sprinkler system installation services. Fire Escape and Fire Exit Regulation

The Fire Marshal is responsible for oversight of the construction, maintenance, and regulation of fire escapes as well as the means and adequacy of exits in case of fire from factories, asylums, hospitals, churches, schools, halls, theaters, and all other places in which numbers of people work, live, or congregate from time to time.  For additional information, you may e-mail the Arkansas State Police Regulatory Services Division or call the office at 501-618-8700.

 
Fire Extinguisher Regulation
